Tsavorite Meaning, Powers and History

Tsavorite is a beautiful green variety of Grossular garnet that rivals emeralds. This is due to the fact that it is made up of calcium aluminium silicate with traces of vanadium and chromium. The name Tsavorite is given to this stone despite the fact that it belongs to the garnet family. Cinnamon Stone and African Jade are two more varieties of Grossular Garnet. This stone was named after Tsavo National Park, and it was proposed by Henry Platt, the former president of Tiffany & Co. Essentially, the stone nomenclature follows a set of guidelines and standards. Furthermore, because most of the stones are prefixed with “it,” which means “stone” in Greek, it was given the name Tsavorite.

Later, Tiffany & Co. started a marketing effort that exposed the stone to a wider audience as this gemstone was only known to few mineral specialists until 1974.
